Sheriff's Department spreading south

By Ray Gomez

The Sheriff's Department will soon expand to the south.

County Commissioners are giving the Sheriff space in a new community center to place a sheriff's substation in south Laredo.

County commissioners say they came to an agreement with the city to combine two community centers and house a new sheriff's substation.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar says he wants a place his deputies can use and better serve the community.

The substation is expected to be open in the summer.
