Sheriff Cuellar: 15 positions need to be filled at the County Jail

By Ray Gomez

The Webb County Sheriff requested 15 jail positions to be filled at the Commissioners Court meeting. He says the positions need to be filled so the jail can meet standards from the State Jail Commission.

According to Sheriff Martin Cuellar the positions are already funded. Positions range from correctional officers to a bonds clerk. The Sheriff says these additions are necessary in order to keep the jail up and running, "We wouldn't pass inspection. Also might be shut down. We've been doing what we can with what we have."

Cuellar says he is also facing a shortage of employees in his department and is expecting to ask for other positions to be filled when the next budget comes around.
