Once a tiger, always a tiger is a saying that rings through the hallways of one local high school.
Now, a prominent Laredoan who dedicated his life to music and students, is being immortalized forever.
Music and heart are two qualities most would use to describe Elmo Lopez, Senior.
A former Martin Band Director, Mr. Lopez has seen the ups and downs the tiger band program has experienced.
A fire in the 50’s took the school's band hall.
And now after fifty plus years with no home for the program, the school has gained a new hall, with a proper dedication to the man who made a difference for so long.
The new band hall was dedicated to Lopez Tuesday night.
As Lopez thanked the crowd, he reminisced on the many trips and rehearsals during his tenure.
Now, a facility that will serve as a tribute to him will serve a purpose for students past and present.
The band hall is already in use.
It's the first time in fifty years that the band has an official place to practice and perform.
