Pony League takes place of Del Mar Little League

By KGNS News

Youth baseball officials have decided to switch from Del Mar Little League to Pony League. The Pony League system requires players to abide by the same rules as high school players would. The move also opens up registration to all those living in Webb County.

Its good for Laredo Pony league to finally have a home. Laredo, thats only one team and won the Championship! Some cities have multiple teams. Yes its baseball politics, High Schools Clubs and Schools ask for thousands here in Arlington and that's just for tryouts and no garentee they will play! Put up with it. Way to go Laredo.

It's unfortunate that the Laredo PONY does not stand for what PONY means. Laredo PONY league does not PROTECT OUR NATIONS YOUTH, Instead they are interested in all $$$. If you don't have any $$$ your son/daughter will not play. If you don't know anyone within their ORGANIZATION, again your son/daughter will not play. I registered for the winter league a very long time ago and everytime I call they tell me they will call me back and I yet to receive a call back from any of them. It's a shame, all these kids want to do is play and stay off the streets, too bad the leaguue doesn't represent what it should be about, OUR KIDS!

Try again said on Friday, Jul 2 at 10:34 AM

pony league registration was $100 and return you would get $50 worth of raffle tickets which some parents never picked up as for coaches it really doesnt matter who the coach is. its parents understanding what your child is capable of handling and not placing your child @ a higher level than the kid can handle if your kid didnt make it this year try again the following year sometimes the kids r not at fault but the parents who push them to do something they dont want.

PONY LEAGUE FEES FOR REGISTRATION IS $100.00, TO ONLY TRY OUT, THEN TO FIND OUT YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ON THE TEAM. ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!ESPECIALLY IF THE COACH IS BALLESTEROS

well i saw that on the city council meeting, when this was brought up Mayor Raul Salinas aka Mr. Potato was backing them up. I think the Mayor should start thinking more about the kids than on how to make his belly bigger

Don't feel sorry for Mr. Rangel, he does not care about the kids. He only cares about his ego. Don't believe me, ask some of his players and there parents.

The truth is that little league is not what it used to be. Del Mar wasn't playing against the best players around the state. Those players are playing select ball (travel teams). If pony gives players a better chance to succeed then why not. The other truth is that it's all about money. Del Mar little league to play was $100, including t-ball.

Little League VS Pony League said on Friday, Jan 29 at 7:36 PM

Some are scared of change, Some say do it for Mr.Rangel, some don't even know they are just moving the chops. Do some research before you start stirring controversy. Baseball is meant for the whole group of kids not only for any specific kid or father. I believe Pony will benefit Laredo as a whole becuase of its style of play (exposure) before you get to High School. Little League has been losing kids in Laredo and all over the world becuase of its style of play. DO YOUR RESEARCH

I guess Rosas and his pupppets have done it again. I wonder who they will blame this time if they don't win. I feel sorry for Mr.Rangel which to my knowledge was not in favor at all.My question is where what fields are they going to used. Sorry to say but Laredo has no fields for pony league. And playing rules what palying rules they are just going to make up there own.

I just heard the news about Delmar Little League going Pony League. I called D.L.L ask questions like bounderies, and draft etc. My sons has always wanted to play with D.L.L. but was unable to due to my address. Now that i have heard the rules and how it will work and how it will benefit my children, i will support the league and encourage children to play sports. Before children were labeled (ur from the South or Gateway etc,.)Now I feel we can show off real talent in Laredo by playing 2gether

Big tournaments come to laredo? por favor. You want people to laugh at the high quality umpires they use for the league? i have yet to see a tournament run the way a tournament should be run. if you have traveled out of town you might know what i am talking about. change? yeah its hard but there is a correct way to implement it. you have not been told all the facts behind this new league, unless you are one of the chosen ones.

hey real coach you must have been coaching for a long time huh? nothing is wrong with pony league. the problem is that del mar l.l. should have never been forgotten of. remember its a city wide league which means some kids are gonna be left out when it comes to all stars. then again with the same maffia running the show they will always get what they want. for the kids? i agree, but when politics get involved(which i dont think you know), who is it really for.

I must admit when i first heard of the change i had questions. Now that it has been explained to me pony sounds like a change that will benifit our kids. L.L.W.S. was great for the older kids but now i understand that pony has all stars for kids 5 years old and up. How can that not be better? I also understand now we have big tournaments comming to laredo. That will benifit all of laredo.I understand change is hard but get over it. Think of the kids because thats all that matters.

I think the laredo pony league need to come out clean and inform the community what they are doing how they went about doing it. They need to come clean. how could you let go of a league that has had the most dominant baseball teams in laredo for the past 8 or more years? Sounds fishy to me. A new league is started from the bottom up, not by taking an established leage, rename it, take all its finances and belongings.

Congrats on pony league to Richard and the puppets. Thanks for making the decision to let go of L.L. charter without asking the PARENTS. I like the way YOU set up your meetings and stack the cards in your favor. I think if the ROSAS Maffia wanted to start a new league then they should start it from new, not at the expense of the kids whos dreams of playing in the L.L.W.S. have been taken away from them. Some fools never learn. Keep it up Big Guy! Politics at its finest. ROSAS FOR MAYOR!! NOT!!
