Tamiu Softball Wins Game 1 of Doubleheader

Earlier today the tamiu softball team won game 1 of a doubleheader 8-3 over Newman University. Samantha García contributed a RBI single in the first inning of the opener and Alexis González came through with a two-RBI single in the second inning to push TAMIU to a 3-0 lead.

Newman scored two runs on three hits in the third inning to make it a one-run game but the Dustdevils came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to build a comfortable lead.

Briana Sánchez went 3-for-4 in the opener with three RBI. Her two-RBI single in the fourth inning pushed TAMIU to a 6-2 lead and her RBI single in the sixth inning provided the Dustdevils an 8-3 lead.

Victoria Beltrán (4-5) earned the win in a complete-game effort for the Dustdevils. She allowed three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and only three walks.
