Former Knight Maldonado Named to All Region Team

St. Mary’s University baseball player Alfonso Maldonado was named NCAA Division II All-South Central Region by Daktronics Inc. for his play during the 2010 season, it was announced on Sunday.

Maldonado (Sr., Laredo, Texas) was the Rattlers top starting pitcher, going 8-6 with a 2.91 ERA, 10 complete games and 2 shutouts in 102.0 innings of work. Opposing batters hit just .244 against him this season. He had 10 complete games in 16 starts this season. In his six losses, the Rattlers scored just five runs, including three shutouts.

The Rattlers will return to action at the NCAA South Central Region Tournament on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., when they face seventh-ranked Abilene Christian University in an elimination game.
