TAMIU Softball Still Unbeaten in Conference

Dustdevils 9-0 in Heartland Conference play

The Texas A&M International University softball team solidified their first place lead in the Heartland Conference with a series sweep against St. Edwards on Sunday at Dustdevil Field. TAMIU won in fashion 8-1.

The Dustdevils jumped on the boards early and never looked back after the first inning leading 3-0. Senior Samantha Garcia got things off and running for TAMIU early as she singled. Victoria Beltran would also single to centerfield when an error would occur sending her and Garcia up an extra base. Clarissa Salinas would walk to load the bases and then Marina Vasquez would provide a big double to left field scoring two. Rochelle Nash would help tack on the third run with a single in the first and the Dustdevils were in complete control from then on. Senior Victoria Beltran would go all seven innings in the circle securing her eighth win of the year giving up only 3 hits and 1 earned run. She also had five strikeouts and zero walks in the game.

TAMIU moved to 9-0 in Heartland Conference play and 22-23 overall.

Notes: Clarissa Salinas hit her sixth homerun of the season in the 5th inning. Victoria Beltran tied Samantha Garcia for the Heartland Conference lead in homeruns with her 10th of the year.
