According the Bryan Benway show, Laredo Heat Forward Esteban Bayona has been invited to try out with the Colorado Rapids of MLS. Bayona said the team has asked him to fly out and train with the team and play in a reserve game.

Thursday night the Laredo Pony League 14u all stars defeated Lafayette, Indiana 7-3, punching their ticket to the World Series Championship game. Chipper Garcia put the team from Laredo up for good in the third inning with a 2 run home run. They move on to face international powerhouse Chinese Tapei Saturday at noon.

Thursday night the Nixon Mustangs hosted Corpus Christi Miller in their final preseason game of the year. The Mustangs imrpoved to 2-0 topping Miller 21-14.

Despite a 4th place finish in the district standings last season, the Alexander Bulldogs made the deepest playoff run of any team in Laredo. They hope to build on that success to bring home a district championship in 2011.

Tuesday night the Laredo Pony League 14u team defeated Cranberry Township, PA 10-0 via the mercy rule. They advance to the bracket championship game Thursday where they need to lose twice to be eliminated. With a win on Thursday the team would advance to the World Series Championship game on Saturday.

LISD Superintendent Marcus Nelson told Kenny Ryan of the Laredo Morning Times, the district is not conceding that the field will be delayed until week three of the season. Nelson said contractors will be pulling double duty on weekends until the project is done. The report also says that LISD will pursue damaged through litigation as a result of the delays.

Tuesday nightt he Nixon volleyball team hosted Cotulla and St. Augustine in a tri match. The Lady Mustangs defeated Cotulla 3-0 and St. Augustine 3-2. Alexander improved to 6-0 on the season topping NIkki Rowe and PSJA, while United South improved to 4-1 sweeping Zapata.
