(Editor's note: The following is an unedited statement released by Sheriff RIck Flores regarding Thursday's ruling in the Webb County Sheriff's election.)
We’re disappointed with the outcome. We strongly feel that we furnished the court with sufficient evidence of voter irregularities. The supporting evidence of our expert witness clearly proved the unreliability of electronic voting machines—with his knowledge of working with the same brand of voting machines in three different states and knowing the electronic devices, concluded that there were errors and we feel strongly that the judge had more than enough evidence to call for a new election.
We thank our supporters and hope that in the very near future, to avoid any future improprieties in the administration of elections, that they look closely at discarding the use of electronic voting machines, and, more importantly, evaluate those who currently work for the Webb County Elections Administration, and restore much needed integrity to that office.
I hope and pray that my successor continues the fine tradition that this organization has provided in the last four years.
Lastly, I cannot overemphasize the extraordinary contribution of our professional staff, who made the Sheriff’s Department, under my tenure, one of the best law enforcement agencies in the state.
