The man involved in a serious hit and run accident is now behind bars.
Police say he turned himself in on his own free will.
Jose Luis Sandoval turned himself into police last night at around 9:30.
According to witnesses Sandoval ran over 21-year-old Afton Miller with his Chevy truck after getting into a confrontation with the girl's boyfriend late Wednesday night at the Del Mar Plaza parking lot.
Police say this case is by no means considered closed.
"Its still considered open detectives barely got the truck last night so they're going to be processing that, photographing it and going through any trace of evidence that may be on the truck. The accident has to be reconstructed to show exactly how the accident occurred so still an active case.
You heard it from an officer himself; the case is still very much an active case. I’m told they're going over witness testimony and hoping to obtain new witnesses that come forward.
