A Laredo star athlete found out yesterday, first hand, that even the best of the best can be affected by the heat.
United tennis star Bryan Welnetz was defeated in his state championship match, but not because of his play. Even though Welnetz is a well-oiled machine, the heat, combined with a tough game, made for match stopping conditions.
And it wasn't just him.
His opponent and several others at the state championship in Austin also succumbed to the dangers of the intense heat.
Welnetz, however, was not able to continue and by UIL rules lost the match even tough at the time he was actually winning.
