The suspect has been extradited to Laredo.
Francisco Ruedas - Escaped From Jail
" I fill out a paper releasing me in the jail."
23-year-old Francisco Javier Ruedas insists that he did not escape from the Webb County Jail.
We asked that question to Sheriff Martin Cuellar and he says that’s not true.
Martin Cuellar - Webb County Sheriff
" That didn't happened. We have evidence to show that it didn't happen. Tthat’s even humorous."
Ruedas was caught in Nuevo Laredo and brought back to Laredo.
The sheriff's department had received tips that Ruedas was hiding across.
" We worked very closed with all agencies and US Marshals but specially the Mexican authorities."
Meanwhile Ruedas says he was hiding in Nuevo Laredo because he feared for his life at the jail.
"They want to hurt me at the Webb County Jail. There are other people that want to hurt me."
Ruedas added that he wanted to be moved from the Webb County Jail to another facility.
Right now Ruedas is facing additional charges of escaping from a jail facility.
According to Sheriff Cuellar the deputy who left the door open to Rueda's cell is now on administrative leave for ten days, pending further investigation.
" We know that the door was left open. Either he did it on purpose or he didn't. That is yet to be determined."
Ruedas is the second convict to escape from the Webb County Jail since Martin Cuellar took office on January first.
