Pro 8 Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warning in effect for central Webb County until 6pm

We're tracking thunderstorms in both northern and central parts of Webb County right now.

Several small streams have flooded and numerous intersections have been closed.

Central Webb county in south Texas

* until 600 pm cdt

* at 256 pm cdt national weather service Doppler radar estimated
2 to 6 inches of rainfall in central and southwest Webb county.

The main area of thunderstorms has diminished but additional rainfall
Of up to one half inch is expected through 4 pm. The basins for
Carrizitos and Chacon creeks have received up to 6 inches of rain.
Small stream and urban flooding will continue through 4 pm with
Many areas of high standing water due to small stream flooding.
Standing water may be found on parts of interstate 35 and highway
59.

For the city of Laredo the heaviest rain has occurred on the east
Side of the city...including the airport, which received 3 inches
During a 2 hour period. Numerous intersections have been closed...and
Motorists were rescued due to high water levels. Minor flooding has
Been reported to have affected some homes.

A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However...all interested parties should take necessary precautions
Immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
Small creeks and streams...and ponding of water on country roads and
Farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
