, Channel 8, serves the mixed markets of South Texas
and the Mexican community. In Texas, KGNS-TV reaches
Bruni, Catarina, Carrizo Springs, Asherton, Freer, Encinal,
Zapata, Cotulla, Oilton, Mirando City, Rio Bravo, El Cenizo
and Hebbronville. In Mexico, KGNS-TV can be seen in Nuevo
Laredo, Candela, Monclova, Agualeguas & Nueva Rosita.
KGNS-TV went on the air January 7, 1956, as KHAD-TV. It became
a Donrey Media Group Property September 1, 1958. One
of the first steps taken by the new owners was the initiation
of a contest among the students on both sides of the Rio Grande
to rename the station. KGNS, which stands for "Good Neighbor
Station", was the winning entry and the station's call
letters were changed.
The station's facilities and equipment continue to be updated
with the ever-changing technology available.
On April 8, 2004 KGNS-TV started broadcasting in digital.
KGNS-TV is owned and operated by SagamoreHill Broadcasting.
KGNS-TV is affiliated with NBC television and is also the
home of Pro 8 News.
Newscasts include LIVE morning cut-ins beginning at 7:25am
and continuing through the extended Today Show. Pro 8 News
also has four newscasts which air at 12, 5, 6&10pm Weekdays,
as well as newscasts on the Weekends at 5&10pm.
Pro 8 News Today began September 4th, 2001. It is an hour-long
morning show bringing Laredo the latest local headlines from
6am - 7am weekdays. |
