Holy Week is always a busy traffic time at the border, and this year is no exception. In spite of sequestration, customs and border patrol tells us they are prepared for the hectic easter travel time. Our Elizabeth Keatinge has more. Border patrol will have four additional lanes open and agents working overtime. The agency will process tourist permits beyond midnight until all paperwork is completed. Tourist permits are necessary for any travelers going beyond twenty five miles from the border....and are good for six months. The permits are six dollars and applicants must have all paperwork up to date. When we spoke to border patrol, they also advised us that the busiest times to travel are during daylight hours, Monday through Thursday. Applicants for the tourist visa must have documentation that is valid for the next six months to be eligible for the full term of the permit. If your paperwork expires sooner than six months.the permit will be issued, but only up until the expiration date of your documents. Border patrol also advises to take extra safety precautions when driving this Easter season.
