$2 Million in heroin seized at Laredo bridge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry this past weekend seized a total of 21 pounds of alleged heroin in three separate enforcement actions that resulted in the arrest of three persons.
The most recent seizure occurred on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge when a 38-year-old Mexican citizen from San Dimas, Durango attempted to enter the country from Mexico, as a pedestrian. The primary officer referred the woman for a secondary inspection that resulted in four packages of alleged heroin found on the woman’s body. The alleged heroin weighed a total of six pounds and has an estimated street value of $600,000.
Another seven pounds of alleged heroin was intercepted on Friday, October 12, 2012 when CBP officers at the same bridge encountered a 22-year-old U.S. citizen from Pompano Beach, Florida traveling in a taxi. The taxi passenger was referred for a closer inspection in secondary. That closer inspection resulted in CBP officers finding two bundles of alleged heroin on the man’s body. The alleged heroin weighed a total of seven pounds that has an estimated street value of $700,000.
The last of the three separate cases involved another 22-year-old U.S. citizen, also from Pompano Beach, Florida that arrived as a pedestrian at the same, Gateway to the Americas Bridge, also on Friday, October 12, 2012. CBP officers referred the man for a secondary inspection that resulted in CBP officers discovering two bundles of alleged heroin on the man’s body. The two bundles weighed a total of eight pounds of alleged heroin and have an estimated street value of $800,000.
In all three of these separate cases, CBP officers seized the alleged heroin and arrested the three individuals. The woman and two men were then turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
