A 21-year veteran of the Laredo Police Department is arrested tonight on 21 counts of theft of a firearm, after allegedly stealing department owned weapons and selling them to different pawn shops around Laredo. 46-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez was arrested late Thursday afternoon. For almost a decade he was assigned to the LPD training division and was a certified firearms instructor in charge of the weapons related to this case. Last month an officer discovered a PD weapon at a local pawnshop and the investigation began. "Obviously the feeling of, and you really can't help but to feel embarrassed in terms of the mistrust the public sees in us every time that we have these types of an issue, despite the facts that the acts of one particular person shouldn't reflect on an entire department of men and women who are trust worthy and hardworking, and are worthy of being called police officers." LPD has accounted for all the weapons involved except for one. Some of the weapons sold were long rifles and semi-automatic handguns. Rodriguez was booked at the Webb County jail with a bond of 113-thousand dollars.
