A former gang leader and four of his family members are now confirmed to be dead after police believe he ignored serious warnings. According to Laredo Police, Guillermo Martinez Herrera, also known as "El Borrado" was found dead in Mexico along with four of his family members who were also found assassinated. Herrera was the former leader of Los Tejas, which controlled most of the drug and human smuggling in Nuevo Laredo before the Zetas took control. He was jailed in 1999 for the killing of a police commander in Nuevo Laredo but was released late last year. Authorities believe he may have ignored warnings from the Zetas to stay out of Nuevo Laredo. It was not made clear as to where or how he and his family members were killed.
