Local students get hands-on medical experience

By Ray Gomez

UT Health Science Center Medical Education Camp is offering high school students hands-on science activities.

It’s an opportunity the campus gives high school students to explore careers in medicine.

Today, around 15 to 20 students learned about dental hygiene. The hands-on activities include placing a sealant on tooth models.

Something that teachers say its a great opportunity for the students. "These activities allow them to learn how many things there are as a dental hygienist," Magdalicia de la Torre, UTHS Assistant Professor.

Around one thousand students participate from this summer camp.

Students come from Laredo, Bruni, Zapata and Hebbronville.
