A local ranch owner says he is tired of being ignored; he is asking the county for help in improving the road leading to his property.
Loose terrain, crumbling trenches and knee deep pot holes these are just some of the challenges facing anyone who attempts the drive eastward up tin mine road.
Mr. Jose Lopez has enjoyed life at his ranch for over 20 years, but now life isn't as sweet as it used to be coming and going from his property off of Mines Road:
"This one you have to be very careful. One wheel here, one wheel there like so, to avoid this, if you go in there you'll be all messed up."
"The rainy conditions are wearing away Mr. Lopez's road. As you can see it's falling apart and we could barely get our news van up his driveway."
The deteriorating road has given Lopez more than just a headache.
Failure to navigate the porous road correctly has caused over $500 in damage to his car and has taken a toll on visitors as well:
"Another person who came to visit me, his car went out of alignment because he went down into one of these crevices."
Lopez says the street leading to his home has been neglected by county officials for years. He is upset that after paying his taxes every year on time he still waits for someone to fix his road.
At age 83, he is concerned the road is not suitable for emergency vehicles, should he need the assistance:
"So it’s like an obstacle course and if you don't know how to drive, or if you do know how to drive the danger is there and the evidence is there."
While we await a call from the county, Lopez continues to brave the trip to his ranch.
Unfortunately, time is not on his side as the road continues to crumble beneath him with each passing day.
