As many of you know, today marks Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead--a day celebrated mostly in Mexico and Europe. Here in Laredo, the tradition continues to be passed on from one generation to the next through an event at the Laredo Center for the Arts. Our Annette Garcia joins us with more. Annette?
"The traditional Mexican holiday is taking on a new twist. Check out some of the pictures here behind me: all celebrities that have passed, also being remembered today. The Laredo Center for the Arts officially opened their Dia de Los Muertos gallery today with a big event complete with music and dance. On exhibit: traditional altares--altars-- which are the heart and soul of Dia de los Muertos. Gabriel Castillo, Director for the Center for the Arts, said, 'Day of the Dead is basically a day to celebrate deceased loved ones who are no longer with us.'
'The biggest tradition is going to the ceremony because the souls visit the earth and we welcome them actually.' The day is just wrapping up here, but if you'd like to see the exhibit, it will be on display until the end of the month. In downtown Laredo, Annette Garcia, Pro 8 News."
