City receives $48 million to renovate water plant

By Ray Gomez

The City of Laredo has received more than 48 million dollars in federal funds to renovate the Jefferson water treatment plant.
The money will be used for substantial renovations and upgrades to the facility.
To ensure quantity and quality of water the City has decided to close the lower portion of the Jefferson street station and expand the capacity of the upper portion of the plant.
“We've got a plant that’s been doing well but as the City grows, specially the way it’s growing, we need to modernize the plant.” Congressman Henry Cuellar told Pro 8 News.
In addition, the City will remodel the Lyon, Hendricks, and Milmo booster stations.
They will also improve electrical controls and generators at eleven booster stations around the City.
