City seeking volunteers to create "100-Acre Woods"

By Ray Gomez

Laredo's North Central Park is getting one step closer to looking like New York’s Central Park as 100 trees whose leaves change colors with the season are to be planted along the parks trails this month.
This is being made possible through the 100-acre wood project.
Trees do currently exist throughout the park but more trees are needed to create a canopy over the trails so people enjoying them will be shaded by beautiful trees.
To make all of this happen, the committee is asking for your help planting the 100 trees.
"Come in your tennis shoes, jeans, bring your gloves, bring some shovels. We’ll have all the trees laid out so all you have to do is come out here pick some trees, stand them up, and plant them." 100 tree planting chairman Orlando Navarro told Pro 8 News.
The 100 trees will be planted on Saturday, November 21st at 8-am.
If you would like to volunteer you can contact Keep Laredo Beautiful at 794-1650 for more information.
