Sisters announce candidacies in double-ceremony

A well-known member of the community says she's ready to take on the position of Webb County District Clerk.

Sylvia Palumbo kicked off her election campaign at The Ambassador before family and friends. Hundreds of supporters turned out to cheer her on.

Palumbo is the Chief Deputy District Clerk and has been for 35 years.

She says seeking the position of District cCerk is the next step up:

“I’m the most experienced candidate. I’ve been here 35 years and that speaks for itself.”

Right beside Palumbo was her sister, who also announced her campaign for County Commissioner tonight.

Gutierrez spent 16 years as Commissioner and says she’s ready to take back her seat.

“You will see responsive government and a voice on Commissioners Court that has an open door policy. I care about your taxes. I’m a taxpayer.”

Early voting starts in March of 2010.
