Voter turnout down this election season

By KGNS News

The first week of early voting is in the books and the number of voters showing up to cast their ballots is lower than at this time four years ago.

As of Sunday, the Democratic Primary Election has counted nearly 9,500 votes; that number down nearly 2,000 voters from the numbers back in 2006.

The Republican vote has also come in lower than four years ago, but only by 22 votes.

The Elections Administrator says he has noticed the decrease, but believes the numbers will be back on track in the coming week:

"We are hoping that in this last week that we have extended hours people will be able to go out and vote and cast a vote for whichever party they want."
