Pro 8 Exclusive: Kids found campaigning on Election Day

By KGNS News

It's election day and dozens of campaigners have set up at the different polling sites to promote their candidates, but at some voting sites our cameras caught minors campaigning on this election day at a time when they should be in school; two teenagers campaigning for a particular candidate with no parents in sight.

The 14-year olds told us that their parents had excused them at school so they could come out to campaign.

At another voting site in south Laredo another group of teenagers were campaigning for the same candidate.

We asked their mother why the kids were campaigning and not at school. She was about to tell us why her kids were there, but before she even said why she asked if we were interviewing her and said she didn't want to come out on camera.

We contacted both school districts to see what they had to say about the kids not being in school.

The United Independent School District said under no circumstances would the kids receive an excused absence.

The Laredo Independent School District says, "even though they agree the kids should be involved in the election process, they encourage all kids to go to school, specially with tasks coming up."

Our cameras visited several polling sites this morning to see if there were other kids campaigning from what we could see, there weren't any.
