The Department of Public Safety is now looking for at least 400 people in the state of Texas who may be interested in becoming State Troopers. Officials with the D.P.S. say some people could become Troopers in as little to 8 weeks--getting a chance to patrol state highways and rural areas, as well as investigate minor crimes and major crash accidents. "There's lots of opportunities for people wishing to become troopers. Now the Department of Public Safety also has other positions that are not commissioned, meaning not Trooper positions, that we do have available throughout the state. We have one in Laredo for a Region Liaison Officer," says Jose Chavarria, a representative from the Texas Dept. of Public Safety. If you would like to find out more about the positions, visit their website. Applicants must be at least 20 years old, have either 90 hours of college or an Associate's degree, or have spent 36 months in the military, or 36 months as a full-time patrol officer.
