American Legion volunteer charged with embezzlement

A 41-year-old man is behind bars after withholding money from a military veterans' organization. The American Legion an organization that helps veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces began to notice certain bills weren’t being paid. Roberto Lara is being accused of embezzling more than $15,000. Police say Lara volunteered with the American Legion to help with the finances with no prior experience of book keeping. After several bounced checks and taxes not being paid, the American Legion officials felt they had sufficient evidence to turn into the District Attorney. He is being charged with theft and embezzlement.
