Local environmentalists are applauding yet another city for adopting a ban of disposable bags both plastic and paper.
The Rio Grande international study center posted the news on their website. The Austin City Council passed one of the broadest bag laws in the nation. No paper or plastic bags at retail checkout counters starting in march 2013.
RGISC (risk) is hopeful a ban will also happen here even if not as strict. Members have been circulating petitions trying to get a feel for such an ordinance in Laredo.
Some local merchants say such a ban would cost them money and customers. They are opposed saying enforcement of local laws could solve a litter problem.
