Apprehensions by border patrol are on the rise in south Texas. According to data released by Customs and Border Protection, so far this fiscal year in the Laredo sector... They've apprehended almost 35-thousand people. Most of those individuals are coming from El Salvador, Guatemala, and other countries in Central America. In a statement released by Congressman Henry Cuellar in response to the numbers, he says, “These numbers still fall under historic lows and our border communities are safe places to raise a family, build a business, or enjoy retirement.” On Monday the Senate voted on an amendment that would double the number of border control agents to 40,000 and guarantee the completion of a 700-mile fence along the southern border.
