City of Laredo's Austin Trip

Funding for transportation is among the items topping the list on the city's agenda as they lobby in Austin for funding in Laredo.
Cuatro Vientos, Mines Road and West Laredo’s rail road area.
All places Mayor Salinas says is feeling congestion as business grows with the Eagle Ford Shale and trade with Mexico.
“We are seeing trade will get better. With the economy in Mexico it’s booming. They are catching up with Brazil and it will affect us. Forty-five percent of all trade comes through Laredo, Texas,” says Salinas.
“That’s a lot of movement. We want to make sure when we move trade we move it efficiently, quickly, and safely.”
Another item of importance is preventive health care.
This as some push for the affordable care act in Washington, but others oppose it here in Texas.
“The governor is not in favor of that. So we need to make sure we give health care to people that need it.”
“We need to have proper health care for our citizens. And we are unique. We are on the border. What happens in Mexico affects us in the U.S. and vice a versa.”
Also affecting our border, the drug war in Mexico.
The mayor says the city will keep asking for more funds to keep the violence out of the US and Laredo.
“To make sure we have law enforcement working as partners. To intercept weapons to find the stolen cars, and to confiscate the money. We need to make sure, we protect and control spill over.”
