The final numbers may be tallied but the election is not over just yet.
Candidates are calling for a recount.
Incumbent frank Sciaraffa is one of them and says he worried there may have been a discrepancy in the way the votes were counted.
For some the results revealed a clear winner.
But in other races the results were too close for comfort.
Ballots began pouring in after the polls closed Tuesday.
When counting was over all eyes were on the four votes that made a big difference.
Incumbent Commissioner Frank Sciaraffa losing to candidate Mike Montemayor by four votes.
“This proved it today. That’s why we keep telling everyone. Every vote counts.”
At least two candidates are preparing to file for a recount. One of those incumbent Frank Sciaraffa who spoke to the democratic chair to get the process going.
“I owe it to my supporters. I owe it to my people that have been helping me through this campaign. It’s been a long process and I want to make sure that the count was accurate.”
Sciaraffa believes there may have been some discrepancies in the way the votes were counted and believes voters may have been confused to begin with.
“I think there was a lot of confusion between Marc Montemayor and Mike Montemayor.”
“There was too many ballots thrown out.”
Meanwhile his opponent is making sure the ballots are safely guarded and impounded until the recount happens.
“There’s a system of checks an balances to maintain those items separately from the general public or anybody else without the presence of the district attorney.”
Sciaraffa says he's prepared to loose but only if the counting was done correctly.
“If I end up the same way I’m fine with it. I’ll congratulate Mr. Montemayor. I’m the first one that will go shake his hand but I owe it to my constituents the people that have been helping me for months. To them 4 votes is very little especially when we were leading for early voting.”
One other candidate Salvador Johnson Jr. who is running for constable of the quad city is also preparing to file for a recount.
He lost to Adrian Cortez by about 100 votes.
Democratic Chair Sylvia Palumbo says the candidate must pay 100 dollars per precinct to have the ballots counted again.
So it could cost candidates thousands of dollars.
