Defense attorneys rested their case Tuesday morning in the trial against two men charged with conspiracy murder for hire and drug trafficking.
Calvin Epps and Samuel Walker are being charged with conspiracy in an alleged plot to travel to Laredo to kill a man who allegedly stole 20 kilos of cocaine from a zeta cartel boss. According to the U.S. government, the men also conspired to kill the man in exchange for drugs that would be shipped to South Carolina to be sold. Tuesday morning, Samuel Walker took the stand in his own defense claiming he knew nothing of a murder-to-kill plot. He said he came down from his army base, Fort Carlson, to train men at a local trucking company how to handle perimeter security. Prosecutors then called to the stand an FBI agent to interview Walker after his arrest and claims he admitted to knowing about the plot.
Closing arguments have been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 1:45PM.
