How about a Zumba with your fruit and veggies? The kids over a Zachry Elementary combined exercise with lessons in healthy eating. It was all part of a project in 8 LISD schools by the Child Nutrition Program, and Laredo Main Street Farmer's Market. The students learned about nutrition from A to Z, as in Apples to Zucchini, but they also learned about all types of exotic fresh foods from Brazilian Papaya to dragon fruit.
Robert Cuelllar Jr., Child Nutrition Program Director, says, "We're going to offer exotic fruit in all eight schools and bring awareness and importance of eating healthy for all the students."
Today's program also included a pledge by the children to change their eating habits and life style, both at school and home.
