Outstanding students from Laredo's eight high schools were honored as part of the Head of the Class and Youth of the Month ceremony. The program sponsored, by the Border Patrol and your good neighbor station, is held each month during the school year to recognize top students. Family and friends gathered at United High School to applaud the student's efforts. Those honored are not only some of the top academically in their class but also participate in extra-curricular activities at school and in the community. Aldaris Calderon of the Laredo Sector Border Patrol says, “It's important to be involved in the community. We want to get our name out there and show the community we are doing more than just being out in the field. We are helping out as much as we can.” This month's Youth of the Month is Valerie Perez, a senior at United High School. She is one of nine students who will enter the selection for the youth of the year.
