"I've been told that since we started this...this has been the largest number of arrests. Ninety in the central and south Texas area."
Immigration and customs enforcement arrested 90 convicted criminal aliens, immigration fugitives and immigration violators as part of their Operation 'Bear III'.
"We're talking about alien smugglers, drug smugglers, indecency with a child possession of firearm, re-entering deportation."
To arrest the 90 people...ICE teams worked in Waco, Austin, San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo to find them. Of the 90, 13 were found in L aredo.
"Being so close to Nuevo Laredo we try to make sure we go after the most egregious individuals."
Those are typically the ones who are caught trafficking drugs and smuggling aliens which Pruneda says go hand in hand.
"Those are the ones that are working with the criminal organizations in Mexico."
During the holidays and the rest of the year, Pruneda says ICE is committed to keeping the city of Laredo safe.
"We're not out driving around picking up people based on what they look like because we go after people of all countries and we want to make certain our streets are safe."
The 13 people arrested in Laredo during the operation consisted of twelve men and one woman with the ages ranging from 23 to 55 years old.
