LAPS Offers Discount to Spay and Neuter Animals

By KGNS News

The Laredo Animal Protective Society is seeing a growing number of animals come into their shelter on a daily basis.
But LAPS is now offering pet owners an increased discount on getting their animal spayed or neutered to help control the overwhelming population.
Cute, cuddly and furry: three things that come to mind when you think of pets.
But spaying and neutering of animals is needed more than ever before.
According to the Director of the Laredo Animal Protective Society, Freddie Flores, they have about 30 to 70 animals brought in on a busy day and only an average of six to seven adoptions.
With the increasing number of animals coming into the shelter, not many survive.
Freddie Flores: “Eight to ten percent survival rate...of all the animals that get brought in.”
That means 92% of animals are euthanized because there is not enough space.
But LAPS is helping pet owners who can't afford to get their animals spayed of neutered.
All owners who request a SNAPS certificate will receive $75 off the surgery.
Flores says the process is simple.
"First of all, make an appointment with the vet of your choice; all vets are taking them. And once you have your appointment and it’s less than 30 days away, then call us and we'll take down the information of your pets and yourself. And then a day or two before the actual surgery date, we'll fax it to your vet. You don't even have to come down here to get it, you just have to make a phone call."
Flores said he increased the discount from $25 to $75 in August.
If you are interested in receiving this, you can give laps a call at 724-8364.
