LCC South Offers Truck Driving Course

By KGNS News

A new program only offered at LCC south is getting a lot of attention because of the salary.
"The wages these individuals can earn is into the. They could go into the $80,000 or $100,00 a year."
So what has people lining up to join it? The new professional truck driver program.
"Our truck driving program has been very successful. We launched it about a year ago and our classes have been going through the roof."
Gonzalez feels that is a direct response to the boom of the eagle ford shale industry. The companies need truckers to drive their supplies.
"Laredo is a community that has been blessed by being the gateway to Mexico or South America. We did studies that showed us the demand was very high for truck drivers."
Typically the age groups that enter the program range from 18-22 years old, but Gonzalez says anyone is welcome.
"The way that the demand has been for these truck drivers...they'll take them into their 50's or 60's even."
Gonzalez says this program is especially good for our local economy.
"Now they can move into this other area where they can have success and definitely economic success is always good for our community."
