Laredo ISD officials said some of their students struggled with the STAAR test.
Superintendent, Dr. Marcus Nelson said the students did well on the science and math portions of the test.
But they struggled in writing and reading portions.
The superintendent said the district plans on focusing teaching to better prepare students.
“As we’ve gotten our STAAR test. We've got areas where we are so proud of our kids and our schools that look very good. Just like several other districts across the state we have areas where we have a lot of improvement. We’re focused on making sure kids get what they deserve.”
The superintendent said many schools did perform well and believes the district is on the right track.
The new STAAR test was put in place for the first time this past school year.
