First up on a day when Laredo is recognized as being one of the safest cities in the nation... that was not the case for everyone! Our James Johnson has more.
We start off with some local stories...one with a juvenile being assaulted in the earlier hours of the day and a plume of smoke seen across the Laredo skies.
Two weeks ago today, a 10-year-old child is assaulted in the brushy area between Dryden Park and Narvaez meat market. This little boy told police that he was just riding his bike when 3 unknown thugs approached him, spoke to him and then proceeded to constantly hit him in the face. This little boy got knocked to the ground while one of the thugs threw his bicycle on top of him...leaving injuries to his face and body. This 10-year-old little boy spent some time in the hospital recuperating from his injuries. Here is where you can help. Do you recognize any three of these thugs that are believed to be behind this horrible assault? If you have any information to please call crime stoppers.
Earlier this afternoon, firefighters rushed to put out a blaze at a home in central Laredo. It happened around two this afternoon where a family's home went up in flames sending a large plume of smoke into the air. At one point...a nearby home almost caught fire. Firefighters were able to contain the house fire and fortunately nobody was home at the time and no injuries were reported. This fire is still under investigation.
We weren't the only ones there, thank you Laredo for your cell phone video. Check this out...
Fortunately no one was close enough to be injured by this loud explosion. The fire did do extensive damage to the home and you could see large puffs of smoke in the air. We want to thank you for your video submissions, just a reminder whenever you shoot breaking news just to simply stay safe, Laredo. And that's your local news of the day.
