Laredo police are forced to arrest their own after neighbors hear gun shots coming from somewhere in their neighborhood.
It happened in the early hours...Laredo police were dispatched to a neighborhood in south Laredo to a report of shots fired. A caller indicated that they were woken up after hearing several gunshots in their neighborhood. Officers would arrive to the scene and while canvassing the area would hear two gun shots themselves.
[cg:newsuper\joe baeza\laredo police department] 06:24:07:21 they approached a home they though the shots were coming from. 06:24:34:24 they made several attempts to knock on the door to get someone to respond.
After there was no response at the residence...police would start an investigation...obtain a search warrant and revisit the home. Laredo police would later find out the residence in question was home to one of their own 27 year old Rene Arce, a 2 year veteran patrol officer.
[cg:newsuper\joe baeza\laredo police department] 06:25:18:25 all the weapons were seized from the home everything that was issued has been seized. 06:25:22:15 at this point it's alleged he used his department issued rifle 223.
The weapon has been sent to ballistics for examination... Luckily no one was hurt by any stray bullets because like the saying goes. What goes up must come down.
[cg:newsuper\joe baeza\laredo police department] 06:26:17:23 anything that is discharged into the air has to come down and it causes a very dangerous situation for anyone who’s in the wrong place at the wrong time. 06:27:33:06 our city leaders expect more from our officers and our community deserves better.
Arce's bond has been set at 5,000 dollars. For KGNS, I'm James Johnson.
