Laredoans Give Their Opinions On The Idea Of Teachers Carrying Guns

Just one week ago a man took the lives of 26 people in Newtown, CT.
Since then, ideas of how to keep students safe have been floating around.
One idea is to allow teachers to take guns to school.
"Looking at the catastrophe that has occurred it is a sure fact that something should be done."
Laredoan Raul Correa believes like many people around the country more security is needed at schools. One of those options being thrown around is the idea of allowing teachers to take guns to school. Governor Rick Perry has been vague about the idea, but does support the second amendment to bear arms.
"Well we know the phrase don't mess with Texas so here in Texas I can see a state being more acceptable of teachers taking guns to school."
One woman we spoke to does not think teachers should be able to go armed to school.
"We have policemen who are retired. We have a lot of people that can help. Not teachers. That's not their job."
"I believe people need to be in control of what's going on in home and in the classroom."
Anita Lopez knows there are many mixed emotions about the thought of teachers carrying guns into the classroom, but feels the only way to come to a decision is to take a vote.
"Texans are very strong. we are in the belief that we look out first for our families and Texans are going to stick by that."
Harrold independent school district near Wichita Falls allows teachers to carry guns in class as long as they have their concealed handgun license.
