Local Family Loses Their Belongings In Fire

Captain Eloy Vega with the Laredo Fire Department said,
"Fortunately no body was inside at the time when the fire occurred. The persons that were there in the house evacuated with enough time to prevent any injuries."
After a fire consumes their house located at the intersection of Louisiana and Barrios the Perez family is left without a home. They say everything happened too fast when the kids were getting ready to go to school.
"Y fue cuando abri la puerta ya el colchon ya estaba la lumbre todo hasta arriba. Nomas le grite a las niñas que se salieron para fuera."
"Residents of this house tell us the fire started in one of the bedrooms but quickly spread to the rest of the house consuming most of their belongings."
"There was significant damage structure damage and property damage to the home itself including a vehicle that was parked next door", said Captain Vega. He also said weather conditions made the fire spread very fast.
He said, "The fire did spread really quickly. Right now it's somewhat windy and there's no doubt that the wind had something to do with it."
The family grateful for making it out alive still hurts for the possible loss of Mickey and Mimi their two cats.
"Lo unico que no alcanze a sacar fueron dos gatitos que me acababan de regalar, de vida de vida fue lo unico que no pude sacar."
The Fire Department was not able to find the cats in side the house and they hope the cats ran out on time.
The family now is asking for help from the community after the Fire Department tells us their residence is a total loss.
"'No les pide mucho ni que me ayuden a pagar mi casa porque es injusto. Yo se que la poblacion de Laredo todos tenemos corazon y que todos nos ayudamos unos a otros."
