A local woman looking for a job is now out about $2,000.
She says she was looking for a fun and quick way to make some money so she turned to the employment ads in a local publication.
Instead she ended up losing big.
Now she's telling out Annette Garcia that she doesn't want others to make the same mistake.
Analisa Martinez says she was looking for a fun and easy way to make some money.
So she turned to some employment ads.
“I came upon the mystery shopper off the bargain book and I said this is something good.”
The local booklet, she says, seemed safe enough.
But she was wrong.
“I didn’t suspect it. It was the Laredo bargain book. We’ve been through it many times for equipment and rentals and so forth. I didn’t expect for it to be fraud.”
Martinez was told to sign up at quailscorp.com and received a check for almost $2,000.
She was told to immediately wire money to Spain and Greece to pay for fees for the program.
And then head to the home depot to rate the store and submit her answers before receiving more payment.
She did just that.
“And I’m $2,000 in my bank account because that check bounced.”
Martinez still can't believe she fell for it all.
“I knew that mystery shoppers do exist. I didn’t expect this to be fraud.”
“Police say its best to be careful with deals that are too good to be true no matter where you find them.”
“They are going out of their way to take out ads in paper, even people that go door to door.”
Martinez has since filed a police report but wants everyone else to know about her big mistake.
“It’s fraud its theft please do not go to the website. Stay away from this website.”
Martinez never received any payment for her work.
Police say you should never give out any personal information over the phone or through e-mail.
It's also not a good idea to send money to someone you don't know or give out any credit card information.
And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
