Man On Trial For Sexually Abusing Little Girl

A man accused of sexually assaulting a little girl sat in court today for his trial.
prosecutors say the then 8 year old victim was abused by her own stepfather. but defense attorneys say that stepfather is innocent and they plan to tell the real story.
On trial is Marcos Alberto Duarte who prosecutors say sexually abused the 8-year-old girl in July of 2008.
On the stand, the little girl described the day she told someone about the abuse years later.
While her pediatrician said the child appeared normal, he said the types of wounds her body would have sustained heal quickly.
The girls psychologist however said the girl had lasting symptoms of sadness and lacked self esteem clear signs of abuse.
But the defense slammed the doctor saying there were other stressors that could have caused the child to exhibit the same symptoms.
"Would it have been a stressor that another child had been sexually abused and she caught them" yes. would it have been a stressor that her 14 year old sister had been impregnated by a 24 year old man" yes. "would it have been a stressor that cps was investigating the household and children were removed" yes.
The defense painted a different picture of a broken household where the victims mother was cheated on by the suspect giving her motive to point the finger at their client out of anger.
“I was happy he was gone. It ended he went his way i went mine.”
The prosecution would not comment on the case.
But defense attorneys would agree to say this.
“We are going to show a different side of the story and after the jury hears the story they will see that our client did not commit the crime he's accused of.”
Duarte faces charges of aggravated sexual assault..
The defendant took the stand late this afternoon, also saying he was being wrongfully accused.
