It's a type of marijuana we've been hearing more about.
Though it's not new, Hydroponic marijuana is becoming more common in Laredo.
And police say it’s because of a combination of a drought and a want for a better high.
The difference is in how it looks.
“The first thing you can tell about hydro is the lack of stems, the lack of leaves and the color. The color is much lighter, and definitely how it smells and how it makes the user feel."
“Compared to a joint or two joint, they would only smoke a quarter or half of this.”
And lately, Laredo police have seen more of it.
It’s called Hydroponic marijuana.
And its not new but the pot is becoming more prevalent in Laredo.
Free of leaves and stems, the very potent drug doesn’t come cheap and costs three times more.
“When it's packaged and sold it’s sold like this because it’s so expensive, whereas marijuana is sold in baggies.”
It's what police found on a schoolteacher just a few days ago.
“People are learning how to grow it the way Hydroponic marijuana is grown and people that have been using marijuana for so long want something different or something with a new better high.”
The marijuana, unlike the usual one, is commonly brought in from areas like San Antonio and New Braunfels where growers have turned to relying on them rather than on Mexico.
“The drought we have been experiencing in south Texas is also being felt in Mexico so the ideal conditions for cultivation of marijuana is also being affected.”
This requires no field, no soil, just a little bit of water.
Police say regardless of why more of it is here, the fact that more is being found here is something that’s just not good.
It’s very concerning to see the teenagers using it because the high we see them onwhen they use this is nothing compared to the high we used to see them on .
Even more worrisome is that Hydro can easily be grown inside the house right next door.
