NHS Thespian Club Running Out of Time

By KGNS News

It seems the Nixon High School Thespian Society's dream of attending a Scotland art festival may not reach the final act.

It all started when their club was invited to represent the United States in Scotland for a prestigious art festival. They began fundraising through play productions and other means. Just last month, June 2012, their drama instructor even braved the Laredo heat and climbed atop a roof of a local restaurant for an entire night in an effort to raise the needed funds. However, they are still $42,000 short.

Drama instructor and May Recipient of "One Class at a Time", Joe Flores, share how his students are reacting to their progress. "I know they are disappointed. Kids are kids, they're going to be a little disappointed. Like I said, if we look at the posititive aspects of what we did, as far as coming together, working for a project, working for goal, helping each other out, I thought we did extremely well considering the time frame."

Flores also mentioned that part of the challenge of flying overseas is the high-cost of travel prices driven up by the summer and the Olympics.

If you have any questions regarding your donation to their cause, or would like to know if and how you can help out, contact Joe Flores at (956) 645-1927 or at his email at: joeflores34@hotmail.com.
