Three former players and one coach were all honored this afternoon by the Nixon Mustangs baseball program for their excellance. Tano Tijerina, Freddie Benavides, the late David Cadena, and former manager Butch Flores were all highlighted for their achievements while wearing the green and gold.
"It's a real big honor for me and my family for his number to be retired. We're very proud of him and it's a blessing."
"It just shows all the hard work when you are young pays off and it's a great honor."
"It's a dream come true my number 15 with no being able to use it ever again, it's an honor to me and a tribute to everybody that i played with."
"I told them that I did not need that kind of honor, it's more important for me to have former kids come back and tell me, coach thank you for everything you did for me."
There was an official unveiling of the numbers later in the evening at Nixon's home, Ochoa Field.
