It's been a few months since an over $50 million bond was approved to renovate a high school in the city.
And now the countdown begins until parts of Nixon High School are demolished to make way for the new building.
Our Annette Garcia was at Nixon today with district leaders who are preparing for some big changes.

And for those who are part of Nixon High School, a little extra excitement is in the air.
“Our board has approved a multi million dollar facelift for Nixon High School.”
That $50 million facelift will bring lots of changes for everyone on campus.
“Many of the older buildings will undergo construction. They’ll be demolished for a state of the art facility.”
“Come January this football field will be filled with portable buildings that will house 62 classrooms for about 18 months.”
But when it's all finished district leaders says the building will be state of the art.
“It will be the pride of the Laredo Independent District.”
Stand out among the rest.
“Just incomparable to any facilities in the state of Texas.”
And play a big role in bringing a whole new spirit to NHS.
“Kids respond when you give them the aesthetics that they need. When you take care of them being hungry when you give them state of the art facility, it has been our research that they respond to that and they know that we care about them and try to bring the best out of them so we bring them the best.”
Students say it will be sad to see some of the old buildings filled with memories go but the project is a welcome change.
“its pretty cool we're going to have a lot of new technology for the new students at Nixon.”
“Our buildings have been around since 1964 so definitely in need of the renovation that is taking place.”
The new construction will not only include Nixon High School.
It will also be the site for the new Vidal M. Trevino Magnet school.
Construction should begin in January and last about 18 months.
