The Food and Drug Administration has approved the “Plan-B One Step” morning after contraceptive pill for women 15 years of age and older without a prescription.
An earlier application by the drug manufacturer to make the pill available over the counter to all women was rejected in 2011.
The product will be available in retail outlets with an onsite pharmacy, and clearly labeled with the new age restriction. Customers will be required to verify their age before purchasing. The drug maker will also include a security tag to the packaging to prevent theft.
